Well, I kinda felt like I was being propelled into the new year, even over the holidays, due to much career planning. I kind of felt like, “come on let me enjoy my Christmas ham. We’ll talk about all this career stuff after my ham!” It’s turned out to be a good thing, though, and I’m glad my ham was interrupted! In the middle of January, I went on a 3,000 mile radio tour in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas, what fun! While I was on the tour, Lily from my label called to tell me that “Desperate Man” had been launched into the Music Row Breakout Chart, how cool! Now, I’m happy to announce that I’ll be going on a performing tour with Little Texas’s Brady Seals, starting on the 18th of this month! We’ll be doing about 30 dates, and I couldn’t be more excited. I don’t have the confirmed list of cities, but as soon as I do, I’ll be passing those along. The even better news… I’ll be all over the country, and hopefully somewhere near you! Come see me!

All the Best,

Howdy,

It was great to be a part of Sound and Speed yesterday! If you’re not familiar with S&S, it’s a charity event supporting Victory Junction and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. NASCAR drivers (stars and up-and-comers) and Country Music singers (stars and up-and-comers) come together and interact with fans via concerts, autograph signings, Q&A sessions, and a gala event, all to raise money for the charities.

This was my first time participating in Sound and Speed, and I had a blast! I showed up at 2:30, catching an elevator with Bucky Covington in the parking garage. After checking in and hanging out in the green room for a while, it was off to sign autographs! If I’m correct, S&S passes out a set number of tickets to have autographs signed by certain artists or drivers. Also, they pair artists and drivers together for the signings. It was a real honor to be paired up with Elliot Sadler! He’s a fan favorite and has quite a record. It was funny, I even had a couple of fans ask me how I got lucky enough to sit beside Elliot for the signings! ha ha

Autographing was a pleasure. Somehow, I had the foreknowledge to bring my own silver Sharpie (they didn’t have one). Unfortunately, it died on me halfway through the session!!! Some blessed soul found another one, and I was saved. I truly appreciate everyone who came through my line. It was great to meet everyone, have pictures taken, and, once again, I truly appreciated all the kind words and well-wishes. Hopefully they enjoyed the sampler CDs I was distributing as well. My label rep. Lily said that people were lining up, asking, “Is this the line where the CD’s are?” ha ha I probably signed over 250 autographs, total. I’ll take writer’s cramp over writer’s block any day! It was a special honor to sign a photo for a mother to send to her son who is bravely fighting in Afghanistan. Also, I had my picture taken with a gnome and a bear (items, I’m not describing people…lol)

After that, I was escorted down to the media room to be interviewed in a press conference format. I was kind of dreading it to be honest! I love to SING in front of people, but talking in front of people is way down on the list of favorites. I’m just gonna have to get used to it! I got through it mostly unscathed, not a brilliant performance, but a passable one! lol That was the end of this part of the event, and I went home to get a little more dressed up and, most importantly, collect my lovely wife for the gala event!

We arrived at the red carpet sometime around 6:30. Dummy me… I parked us, and we walked down to the Municipal Auditorium, winding up on the WRONG side of the building. After walking through the warm building a little bit, we decided that we were gonna have to go back out into the freezing, blowing cold to walk around to the other side of the building to the red carpet entrance! ha ha ha! Anyway, so Steph and I were escorted to what I’ll call the “photo wall” where around 20 photographers were lined up taking photos of those who entered, against a Sound and Speed backdrop. This was the first time I had experienced photographers saying (like on t.v.) “Nathan over here.” “Nathan straight ahead.” Thank you photogs; you made me feel special! I went first and then motioned Steph over to have some pics taken with me. The photographers asked, “Who is this???!” I motioned to Steph and started to say, “This is Na…” Then I caught myself and hung my head in shame, as everyone knew I was about to say my own name! lolol They thought it was funny, as did Steph. I tried to recover and said, “Just so you know, she has introduced herself as Nathan before! (true story) This is Stephanie… my WIFE Stephanie.” Gotta skip forward here. It was a long night! Steph and I hosted a table of folks who had sponsored the event. What a table we had! It was a group of friends, mainly connected as golfing buddies, along with their wives. They made us feel like we’d known them for a million years. We had some great conversation, told some jokes about our table being arranged so close to the buffet (They must know us!), ate, and I drank some Coca-Cola. I hope to meet those folks again!

Some other highlights of the night:
Josh Turner and Gretchen Wilson performed
Many of the most famous NASCAR and Country Music Stars walking around
An artist painted two magnificent portraits, live on stage during the event, one of Willie Nelson, one of Johnny Cash, both of which auctioned for several thousand dollars to help the charities

I hope I get to participate next year!

God’s Peace,

Nathan

As we're approaching the Christmas holiday, many great memories of
"Christmas past" seem to continually flood in. It's probably the same
for you! I thought I'd take a moment to share a humorous favorite
Christmas memory of mine...

One year, we (my Dad, my Sister, and I) bought my mom a pair of gloves
that she had asked for. Mom had a great sense of humor, but was always
more reserved and quiet, and never really "ha ha" funny herself.
However, after she'd opened her gloves and we'd turned our attention to
other gifts, we heard her excitedly and jokingly say, "Look I'm a
reindeer!" When we turned to look, she had taken the hand-shaped,
cardboard inserts out of her gloves and was holding them up on both
sides of her head like antlers! We all just laughed and laughed, and we
made a point to buy her gloves a time or two after that, to see if we
could get a repeat!

"Look, I'm a reindeer!" If Mom were still around, by the way, I would
be in BIG, BIG trouble for sharing this story... I don't mind sharing
this, though, because to me, it's another testament to the wonderful
person she was.

My friend Karin Paparelli came with me in her minivan a couple of months ago to pick up a 65″ HDTV that I had bought. After seeing how big it truly was, including the stand, we both agreed that no reasonable person would try to fit it in the van. Actually, while I was out of earshot, the guy I was buying it from told Karin, “I would never do this (try to fit this expensive t.v. into this minivan for a precarious ride home).” Karin replied, “I know, neither would my husband.” However, Karin and I share a little bit of that… what would you call it(?)… risk-taking personality, fearlessness, ingenuity… no, let’s go with impatience, and impulsiveness, and there was no way we were making another trip to Nolensville for this thing. So after much planning and maneuvering, and tethering down the back door which wasn’t even close to being able to shut, we finally got my monstrosity of a t.v. into the van. I’m pleased to say that after the hour drive home, it made it up to my bonus room in pristine, working condition, thank you very much. After sharing our adventure with a few people, we decided that maybe one day Karin and I would go into business as “Make it Fit Movers.” Catchy, don’t cha think?

Well, I was reminded of this today after I bought a new 9′ Christmas tree for Steph and me. I got to thinking, “Wow, this is a really big box (and ninety-five pounds), and I’ve got to get this into my car somehow. I don’t know anyone with a truck who could come help me. Maybe I could get one of these guys in the parking lot with a truck to help me; I live just around the corner. No, I’LL MAKE IT FIT.” LOL

So, MAKE IT FIT MOVERS is open for business. Here’s yet another shining example of our work. If you have your own “Make it Fit Movers” story and photos, please post them and make me aware of them in the ‘comments’ below!

Among the many changes, “new beginnings,” in my life, one of them is that Stephanie and I have a new place to live, our first home! We’re still settling in, and I’m still settling into some other “beginnings.” In the next few days I’ll start promoting my new single “Desperate Man,” another adventure. Also, in a little over a month, my debut album “Complicated Hearts” will be released. As much as I love each song on it, and thus each single released, I’m most excited for everyone to hear the album as a whole. It was a real labor of love! This new house of ours is also turning out to be a labor of love. We decided that every interior wall needed a new coat of paint, to clean it up, and make it our own. Guess who, with his flexible schedule, wound up working 18-hour days over the past three weeks to get the job done? Did you guess me? You’ve got it! In the same way, my web staff and graphic artists have been working diligently to give the website and the album art a “new coat of paint.” I think it’s looking pretty doggon good, right?! Anyway, life is about change, and it’s much easier to accommodate when it’s change for the good! Thanks for being a part of a new beginning with me.
